Over the last 200 years, Durbanville has developed froma small agricultural enclave to a bustling small city.
Originally the small village (then known as D’urban) and surrounding hills were occupied by farmers, blacksmiths and wagon makers. Being just 36 kilometres from Cape Town meant it was a useful staging post for animals and freight on their way to or from the north.
The Durbanville valley has not lost its rural flavour. Modern housing developments may be pressing in on all sides, but fields of vines, grazing cows and gracious farmsteads still prosper in the eye of the suburban storm.
Today the Greater Durbanville has much to offer – from ultra-modern business parks and complexes such as the Tygervalley Waterfront, to one of South Africa’s largest & world class shopping and entertainment malls, the Tygervalley Centre.
