Gordon's Bay : General Information
Gordon's Bay exudes charm with its narrow streets and
bustling waterfront. The imposing backdrop of the
Helderberg Mountain range creates a picturesque cove,
which welcomes windsurfers, water-skiers, sailors,
fisherman and sun-worshippers from across the globe.
The main beach lies right across from an array of
restaurants, coffee shops and bars along the
waterfront – with one of the most popular ice-cream
parlours in South Africa. Bikini Beach, sheltered behind
the harbour wall, is a popular destination for the younger
set that needs to be seen whilst enjoying sunbathing,
water sports and beach volleyball.
For those interested in nature, there are breathtaking
walks and trails along the Steenbras Dam and the
Helderberg mountain ranges. Between June and
November the shallow bays alongside Boyes Drive
towards Rooi-Els and Betties Bay, are visited by
Southern Right whales. A multitude of viewpoints gives
the day-tripper a perfect view of False Bay and its well-
known beacons such as Table Mountain and Cape Point.
Nothing beats a red sunset over False Bay with the
Cape Peninsula as a backdrop. The true romantics can
take an evening stroll along the harbour wall or a sunset
cruise from the old harbour. The harbour also offers a
number of excellent seafood restaurants.
Accommodation on offer includes guesthouses, self-
catering units and bed and breakfast establishments.
There are also a number of conference venues.
Gordon's Bay is a laid-back Mediterranean style
destination with the city life’s luxuries literally on its
doorstep.
