Marina Da Gama is a unique and picturesque area with houses built on an extensive waterway maze.
Set against the impressive back-drop of the Muizenberg mountain chain, the Marina basks with its sun-splashed white walls and sparkling waterways - a paradise for boat enthusiasts and bird watchers.
The Marina is minutes away from the expansive sweep of Muizenberg's white sea sands and the warm waters of False Bay - renowned for safe bathing, great surfing and fishing.
Most of the properties in the Marina boast magnificient mountain and lake views.
From townhouses to mansions, there is something for everyone.
When was it built?
The Marina da Gama was first established in 1970 by the Anglo American Corporation.
Isn't it swampy?
The canals were excavated and the banks securely concreted before being linked to existing Sandvlei Lake with its outlet into the sea. Because of the high degree of expertise involved in the creation of the waterways, there are no marshy areas nor rising damp.
What about flooding?
The water level is controlled at the mouth and there is therefore no possibility of flooding.
What about mosquitoes?
Because of the regular inflow of seawater at high tide, the water is part saline and therefore is not conducive to mosquito breeding.
Isn't it cold?
The proximity of houses to the water does not reduce air temperatures. In the summer the temperatures are pleasantly less than in the sweltering city due to cooling sea breezes. In the winter the rainfall is considerably less than in other parts of the Cape peninsula. The climate in the Marina and Muizenberg is marked by a lack of extremes.
What is the proximity of different amenities?
The Marina is within easy walking, cycling or driving distances to the beach, Muizenberg Primary and High Schools, five minutes to Muizenberg village, three minutes to Capricorn Shopping Centre just across the M5 and ten minutes to the popular Blue Route Shopping Mall in Tokai. The City centre is only twenty minutes away in off-peak traffic hours via the M5 freeway. Cape Town International Airport is thirty five minutes away via the M5 freeway.
Is the Marina safe?
Security in the Marina is good due to well-conceived planning of islands and quiet cul-de-sacs which reduces thoroughfare considerably. Various security services operate in the area. Neighbourhood Watches have been formed in many parts of the Marina, which is known to have one of the lowest crime rates in Cape Town.
