Betty's Bay is the jewel of the Fynbos Coast - only 80 kilometres from Cape Town International Airport on the magnificent Clarence Drive from Gordon's Bay.

Betty's Bay is situated along the scenic Clarence Drive Route. Formerly, a whaling station, is now home to the beautiful Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, situated within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, the first and only Biosphere in South Africa to be proclaimed by United Nations' Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Betty's Bay area is not only renowned for its magnificent floral kingdom, but it's also home to one of only three breeding colonies on the mainland in South Africa. The Jackass Penguin Colony at Stony Point can be viewed from a viewing platform and the penguins are best seen in the late afternoon when they return from their day's fishing. An interesting fact is the Speniscus demersus, (African Penguin) is one of 18 species worldwide, and the only penguin specie that breeds around African coasts.
In Betty's Bay at Stony Point, the remains of the Old Whaling station, which was in operation from 1912 to 1930, can still be seen. In 1976 South Africa signed the treaty to ban whaling and the big mammals are making a come back. Each year, Southern Right and Humpback whales migrate into our coastal waters to calve and nurse their young. These gentle giants provide unsurpassed whale watching opportunities between May and December. Stony Point is known to be a local and tourist hotspot for land-based whale watching.
Betty's Bay, nestled between mountain & ocean, is definitely a worthwhile holiday destination and a great place to get away from it all. An abundance of self catering holiday homes provide the perfect places to stay - if you first want to experience the lifestyle before you buy / invest into a holiday or retirement home.

The local property market is starting to show signs of developing into a permanent residential market, as opposed to just a holiday destination. "Tremendous development in neighbouring areas is creating an overflow of buyers. Many people working in towns such as Somerset West prefer to live in smaller towns and commute to work."
Prices of stands in Betty's Bay range from +- R300 000 to R2m, while houses sell for between R650 000 and R5,5m.

Major shopping: 30-45 mins to Gordon's Bay or Somerset Mall or Hermanus. Basic shopping: 13kms to Kleinmond. Banks: FNB, ABSA & NEDBANK. 2ATMS. Inside Betty's Bay there are two small supply stores & a petrol station. Selection of restaurants & Internet coffee shop. Mini ABSA ATM.
Directions from Cape Town: Take N2, turn right at Kleinmond turn off (R44) just outside Gordon's Bay. Turn left at T-junction onto Clarence Drive to Rooiels (R44). From there, +- 30km of very scenic driving to Betty's Bay.
Directions from Garden Route: From N2, after Caledon take Hermanus turn off (R43). Left & left then drive +-10kms, turn right at Kleinmond turn off (R44).
